A paper titled ‘Improved Efficiency of Thin Film a-Si:H Solar Cells with Gold (Au) Nanoparticles’ by Kazi Islam and Aaesha Al Nuaimi, second-year students of Microsystems Engineering program, has been accepted for presentation at the 39th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC). The world's leading conference on PV research and technology will be held from 16 - 21 June, 2013 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Kazi and Aaesha are currently 2nd year MSc students in the Microsystems Engineering program working in Professor Ammar Nayfeh's research group- Nano Electronics & Photonics (NEP).The paper presents thin film a-Si:H solar cells with gold (Au) nanoparticles enhancement, and reports an improvement of 18.6% in the power conversion efficiency with Au nanoparticles.
Kazi and Aaesha fabricated the advanced thin film cells when they travelled to the National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) at Bilkent University in Anakara, Turkey, during last winter break.
